Human Trafficking Awareness Day
January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Since 2010, each January has been designated National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention month in the U.S. through Presidential Proclamation. The 11th day of January, however, is the one day we can all come together to focus on raising awareness using our tools and talents. An easy action to take, we encourage our followers and supporters to share on social media some statistics about human trafficking.
There are an estimated 40.3 million men, women and children enslaved in the world today. (International Labour Organization)
81% of trafficking victims are in forced labor situations. 25% of victims are children. (ILO)
Human Trafficking is a $150 billion dollar industry, the second largest criminal industry. (ILO)
Trafficking is illegal everywhere, but it occurs everywhere.
Ohio ranks fifth in the US for human trafficking cases identified through the Human Trafficking Hotline (Polaris)
