New Year’s Day Recap

Our annual New Year’s Day 5k, the World Race for Hope Troy, took place at First Place Christian Center in downtown Troy this morning. While we weren’t fortunate enough to have the above normal temperatures that persisted throughout December, it wasn’t as cold as it has been in the past, and we were really thankful that the flood waters of the Great Miami River receded enough for our course to be clear. There were some highlights and features that have occurred in recent years, such as the cookie medals as age group awards, the pancake breakfast by the Troy FUMC youth, and a repeat (or perhaps a six-peat) for our overall winner. There was also a new aspect of the race, a live stream of the start and finish on YouTube (the video is long but you can jump ahead to find a specific finish according the clock.)  Thank you Take 2 Productions for arranging the video stream!

The race organizers and board of directors of Free To Run Foundation are very pleased with the turnout and the support from the community. Your support is helping to make a difference in the fight against human trafficking by raising awareness in our communities (we even made the evening news!). We have other programs and events planned for 2016, including our next race in Columbus on April 9th, but even though it’s a year away, we are already excited for our 10th annual race in Troy. We’d like to thank everybody who came out this morning to participate or spectate, our volunteers inside, and outside on the course, the youth group for the delicious pancake breakfast, Speedy Feet for another smooth and professionally-run race, the Troy Police Department and Troy Auxiliary Police, the City of Troy and especially the Rec Department for making sure the bike path was clear of debris from the flooding. Also, thanks again to our sponsors LexisNexis, Concrete Sealants, Up and Running, Troy FUMC, Sroufe’s Painting Service, Holly Lynn Photography and Ghostlight Coffee. Hope to see you at another Free To Run Foundation event soon.
